As an Annapolis brand photographer, I’m here for the quirky, weird, and cool. I’m here for the artists, creators, and status-quo shakers. When you’re a badass creative, you deserve badass personal brand photos to match. And nothing brings me more joy than documenting the creative souls who see life just a little differently.
So I was over the moon when I got to capture some personal brand photos for Sarah, a stained glass and mixed media artist from Baltimore! We connected through a mutual friend and artist at my favorite tattoo studio. Sarah’s current photos were sorely outdated, and she needed something that captured her edgy style and incredible artwork. You better believe I was up for the challenge.
Capturing personal brand photos for an artist can be tricky. You need a mix of headshots, pictures of them working, and the art itself. And all of those photos need to feel genuine to who the artist is. Sarah is a powerful, beautiful, incredibly creative woman. I knew we had to think outside the box to give her the best photos!
We planned this shoot over a few months and let our creativity flow through the process. I love collaborating with clients on the photoshoot vision. These photos are all about how you feel, so, of course, I want your input! At the end of it all, Sarah said she wanted to feel like herself and look cool. And I’ll tell you what I told her: cool is my specialty.

We started with a moodboard, looking for creative ways to incorporate her stained glass without the photos feeling stuffy. I ended up using a projector, which gave us the impression of a stained glass window with light shining through it directly onto Sarah! When it comes to personal branding photos (or any photos, ever), there are no rules. We did what felt right, and ended up with some of my absolute favorite shots!
We were very intentional about the studio we rented through Peerspace. We chose a space that was both industrial and warm, while Sarah’s styling perfectly balanced soft femininity and her bold, unapologetic attitude. She even brought some of her tools, which let us get some photos while she sautered glass for a new piece. I loved seeing her in action, and especially loved including her artwork in these photos. We experimented with different poses to highlight different pieces, keeping Sarah’s personality front and center in each one.

This shoot gave me a chance to stretch my creative muscles in a way I didn’t know I needed. Sarah’s effortlessly cool style and easy confidence made photographing her an absolute delight. I loved bending the rules of what personal brand photos “should” be, instead finding something that felt true to the art and the artist.
