Your engagement photos should capture the way your love feels. And as a wedding and engagement photographer, it’s my greatest honor to capture your love in a way that feels true to you. Whether you want to go back to the dive bar where you met, walk around your favorite neighborhood, or pop into a new cafe for the coolest coffee shop engagement photos… your photos are about you. Screw what other people think. Do what feels right for you.
When Monica and Steve reached out to me for their photos, they said they wanted their engagement photos “to convey the ease that our relationship has. The comfort of strolling around our neighborhood that we’ve lived in and is our story.” So I packed my bag, drove to Brooklyn, and captured the sweetest neighborhood and coffee shop engagement photos. I had the best time with Monica and Steve, chatting about how we actually met years ago at a party, and how Monica used to live with Susie, a previous bride whose wedding I think about at least once a day (read about it here!). Come traipse around Brooklyn with us!
When I say your engagement photos can be anything you want, I mean it. Monica and Steve wanted to capture the relaxed energy of their relationship in a place that feels like home. We started at the Brooklyn Bridge and walked around the quintessential New York streets. It was easy to photograph Monica and Steve. I just had to follow them around with a camera as they reminisced about their relationship and time in the city.
On a whim, we popped into Devocion for some coffee. Monica and Steve changed into their second outfit (and I am, unsurprisingly, obsessed with Monica’s two-tone jeans). Though we didn’t plan to stay long, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity for some cute coffee shop engagement photos. And honestly? I think the warm lighting and exposed brick walls truly captured the essence of Monica and Steve’s comfortable love. I mean, c’mon. They look like frames from a rom-com!
After squealing over the coffee shop engagement photos, we resumed our rambling. We paused anytime we found a cool background, and even took a few pictures on someone’s stoop (which can be a bit risky in Brooklyn, ifykyk). These ended up being some of my favorite photos of the day. Amazing things can happen when you’re willing to think outside the box and do something creative for your engagement session!
What does your love feel like? Is it comfortable and casual, like Monica and Steve’s? Or do you and your partner bond over something entirely different? I’ve done engagement shoots in dive bars, movie theaters, coffee shops, and gardens. There are no limits on what’s possible! The goal is to capture what your love feels like, so do what makes you happy! I’ll just be a fly on the wall, directing when needed, but mostly capturing your love in its natural habitat.
