As a brand photographer, I’ve gotta say… getting to do food photography in Annapolis, Maryland, is one of the best parts of my job. I mean, let’s think about this for a second. I get to photograph local businesses doing what they do best. I get to be around food. Those are like two of my absolute favorite things.
So when Black Market Bakers reached out about food photography, you better believe I did a little happy dance! Black Market Bakers is one of my favorite places here in Annapolis. If you haven’t been there yet… You need to go. Like right now. I swear my shoulders unclench every time I step into one of their bakeries. There’s something about their warm, welcoming spirit, the smell of fresh-baked pastries, and, well, the taste of fresh-baked pastries. Talk about melt-in-your-mouth, Ratatouille-level flavor combinations that make your taste buds beg for more.
Anyway, what was I talking about? Right, food photography and why I love it so much.
Branding photography for restaurants, bakeries, and other food-based businesses has its own little subsection: food photography. And yup, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Up close and personal photos that show just how amazing the food at a cafe/restaurant/bakery is! These photos can be used on your website, social media, and even printed on signs and banners to promote your food business.
But Black Market Bakers wanted more than just food photography. They wanted to bring their customers on the baking journey with them! During their two-hour branding shoot, not only did I photograph plates of pastries, but I also got to go behind the counter and watch their bakers in action. Let me tell you, the smell of rising bread and baked goods had me drooling.
As a local business, they wanted to focus on what makes them so special: their relationship with their customers! Once I finished shooting in the kitchen, I stepped back to watch the front of house do their thing. You know what I saw? Happy customers chatting with smiling staff. The exchange of yummy pastries. The look of bliss when someone first bit into their order. I couldn’t help but smile from behind my camera, because I realized that this is what Black Market Bakers is all about. Not just the food, but the connection food creates between people.
When Black Market Bakers first reached out to me, they didn’t just want photos of their food. They wanted photos that captured the energy and atmosphere of their business. They wanted the busy, bustling, warm, inviting presence of their bakeshop to infuse the photos, to show people what it feels like.
Food photography isn’t limited to photos of food, piled on plates. Yes, nicely arranged meals in high definition are definitely appealing. But food photography is about so much more! It showcases how your restaurant, bar, bakery, or food truck is unique. It highlights everything you offer: from what’s on the menu to the people behind the register! If you’re looking for a food photographer in Annapolis who can capture what makes your business unique, you’ve found your gal! I love taking photos that capture a feeling and invite others into your experience.
